5 Super Easy, Delicious Vegan Snacks
When we first thought about going vegan, the first question we asked ourselves was 'what in the world will we eat'? If you focus on the 'no's' of veganism, you can get discouraged. No dairy, no meat, no eggs, no yogurt, no cheese. Seriously, what's left? If instead of focusing on the 'no's', you focus on the 'yes' foods available for you to eat, you'll realize that there is no shortage of things you already eat every day that are naturally vegan. On the snack front, there are so many great vegan options. Below is a selection of five of our favorite vegan snacks.
The first up is fresh fruit, which is probably a bit of no-brainer to you, but it deserves our first mention. Is there anything more perfect than a bowl of delicious, perfectly ripe in-season berries? We don't think so! Your fruit options are endless, full of important nutrients, and so freaking delicious. Mangoes, apples, bananas, pineapple, watermelon, honeydew. The list goes on and on. Don't worry about sugar content, just eat fruit as much as you want.
Next up is avocado, which, we know is also technically a fruit, but really should be its own vegan food group. Avocados are full of healthy fats and are a perfectly sating snack. Eat them however you like - on toast, whipped into a guacamole or, our personal favorite, chopped up and topped with salt and pepper. Simple perfection. If you feel so inclined, you can also add a drizzle of olive oil to increase the fat content and satiety further.
Oh, chips and salsa. This is THE BEST vegan snack of all time. Have these on hand as a vegan and you'll always be happy. The key to being content with your food as a new vegan is to have lots of great options that you truly love on hand at all times so that you don't feel deprived or hangry, ever. Who doesn't love chips and salsa??
Banana + peanut butter is a delicious vegan snack. There is no need to cut them cute like we did in this photo. In fact, it might taste better if you individually add peanut butter straight from the jar onto each bite of your banana. The chia seeds add a nice texture to the banana + peanut butter combo and are loaded with lots of healthy omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, iron and calcium.
Hummus and Triscuits are a match made in vegan snack heaven. They're a classic. We prefer the spicy hummus to give the dish a bit of a bite, but do whatever vegan flavor works best for you.
